Blak Douglas: The Halfway Line

This mid-career survey of First Nations artist Blak Douglas traces his early interest in graphic art and design, through to his award-winning portraiture.

Born Adam Douglas Hill in Blacktown in 1970 to a Dhungutti father and Scottish mother, Douglas’ practice has foregrounded the lived experiences and histories of Aboriginal Australians – believing art to be a powerful, striking means to affect real and symbolic change. With a body of work spanning drawings, major public artworks, painting, performance, photography and sculpture, the exhibition is the largest-ever single presentation of Douglas’ work.
