The Bankwest Art Collection ranks among the most prestigious corporate art collections in Western Australia and the Bankwest Contemporary Art Prize, which returned to the annual arts calendar last year, is open to all artists who reside in WA.
Under the stewardship of Bankwest Art Curator, Sandra Murray, 109 applicants have had their submissions assessed and the applicants have been shortlisted to just 19 finalists.
Congratulations to the finalists for the 2013 Bankwest Contemporary Art Prize:
Penny Bovell, Sussana Castleden, Rachel Coad, Thea Constantino, Penny Coss, Jo Darbyshire, Adam Derums, Christopher Hopewell, Jeremy Kirwan-Ward, Eveline Kotai, Sonia Kurrar, Tom Muller, Ron Nysztor, Elizabeth Nyumi, Nicole Slatter, Jon Tarry, Juha Tolonen, Phillip Ward Dickson and Christopher Young.
The selection panel comprising of Ms Belinda Cobby (Art Consultant for Artbank; a Federal Government arts agency), Mr Bevan Honey (Artist and Studio coordinator for Fremantle Arts Centre) and Ms Murray focused on art which reflected a contemporary approach and was conceptually refined and innovative.
The winner, to be announced on November 26, 2013, will be awarded $30,000 and there is also a People’s Choice Award worth $5,000, to be announced at a later date.
