Freshwater Saltwater

Freshwater Saltwater is UMI Arts’ signature annual group exhibition, showcasing the talent and rich diversity of mid-career, senior, and established member artists. The title reflects a metaphorical ideology of mainland Aboriginal custodians reliant on and connected to freshwater, and Torres Strait Islanders who are surrounded by saltwater. Freshwater flows through rivers and streams, moving always towards the coastal saltwater of the sea until waters meet, flowing together. This exhibition represents the “flowing together” of First Nations peoples’ cultures and stories, from rainforest to desert to island.
