Depicting a walk on the beach, feeling the caress of the sea breeze and joy of time spent together, Melbourne-based Gillian Govan has won the Art Almanac Award in the Association of Sculptors of Victoria 2026 Annual and Awards Exhibition.

Govan’s winning work, Sea Breeze, is described by judge Daniel Agdag as “a beautifully composed piece with a wonderful sense of the idea it is depicting.” Wind-swept hair on the figures gives a visceral sensation of ocean air, Agdag also observed, loving the whimsy of the bird in flight.
