John Nixon: Song of the Earth 1968–2020

Abstract artist John Nixon (1949–2020) was known for experimentation and a deep engagement with radical modernism. While abstract and non-objective painting remained Nixon’s primary focus, his work extended across multiple disciplines, including experimental music, film, photography, printmaking, and theatre.

Marking the first major survey to trace Nixon’s career, covered are his beginnings as a minimal and conceptual artist in the late 1960s and ’70s, through to his ’80s installations combining paintings with readymade objects, and into his continued expansion and experimentation of his painting practice in his final decades.
