Margel Hinder: Modern in Motion

‘Modern in Motion’ presents the first retrospective of one of Australia’s most important modernist sculptors, Margel Hinder (1905-1995). The exhibition features 70 sculptures from private and public collections, alongside works drawn from the Art Gallery of New South Wales archives. The display of early carvings in wood and stone c.1930s to 40s, to the ‘space age’ kinetic and wire works from 1950s, and major public commissions from the 1960s, showcase Hinder’s extraordinary skill in giving sculptural form to universal concepts like time and motion.
