Ararat Arts Precinct’s $7.7m redevelopment plan involved a partial refurbishment of the Ararat Performing Arts Centre, the building of a new green room and cafe, improved storage and theatre technical upgrade; as well as the expansion of Ararat Regional Art Gallery, re-opening under the new moniker of Ararat Gallery TAMA (Textile Art Museum Australia). The inaugural exhibition, ‘Material Constructs: The Home Stretch’, features new work by Sarah crowEST in response to two of her earlier pieces acquired by the gallery. crowEST’s work operates in the gaps between geometric abstraction, hand-crafted apparel and the expanded field of painting. Presented in association with Craft as part of its Craft Forward series, the exhibition runs from 3 August to 28 October.
