The Biennale of Sydney (BOS) this week announced the exciting, and warmly welcomed, news of new exhibition dates, which sees the internationally acclaimed Biennale launching in warmer months with more stable weather for its many outdoor exhibition spaces. The BOS has always battled the weather as it’s usually held in the winter months, with many of the works in outdoor settings, most visitors find themselves at least once wishing they wore gumboots to Cockatoo Island.
This week it was announced that the 19th BOS will be held from 21 March to 9 June, 2014, with the vernissage running from March 18 to 20 – the earliest opening of the event in the Biennale’s 40-year history.
“We are pleased to present the 19th Biennale of Sydney during Sydney’s warmer autumn months and anticipate the earlier dates will be welcomed by our local and international visitors and colleagues, many of whom will appreciate the improved alignment with other major events on the arts calendar”, Chief Executive Officer Marah Braye said in a statement.
Excitement is already building for the 19th BOS, which is titled You Imagine What You Desire and curated by internationally acclaimed Australian-curator, writer, publisher, and designer, Juliana Engberg – Director of Melbourne’s ACCA. Of the 2014 Biennale, Engberg says “The key venues will provide the perfect roll out for episodic art encounters as we go in search of the artistic imagination and how it brings into being through its creative desiring”.
Art Almanac will bring you more news and program highlights as they come to hand between now and March next year. In the meantime, visit their official website to join their mailing list for their eNews.
