Darwin-based artist Nigel Sense replaces the faded wall prints, dioramas, and tacky souvenirs, often found in tourist information offices, with more dazzling suggestions of what a visitor’s centre could look like. In addition to newly-commissioned large-scale canvases, Sense experiments with new materials through the painting of Territory icons on eskies, T-shirts, plates, and a family-sized camping tent. A new local in the Top End, Sense takes centre stage with a playful ‘Welcome to the NT’ in Visitor Centre.
