The depth of connection to Country and culture, and the integral role that First Nations women artists play in teaching and storytelling across generations locally and nationwide, is celebrated in the Art Gallery of South Australia’s annual Tarnanthi exhibition, ‘Open Hands’. Led by Barkandji artist and curator Nici Cumpston OAM, the 87 participating artists share stories as rich and diverse as their practices. Paintings are transformed into animations, stories are etched or woven, and photographic portraits capture a moment in time and place.
