Penny Coss and Penny Bovell’s exhibition, ‘Out There’, looks at the possibility of being “in there” – where in imagining nature and the imagination of nature are inextricably linked.
For both artists, these concerns are worked out in paint, its fluidity, its colour and its form. Their works aim to be poetic, revealing doubt through material and bodily processes. Disillusion of form liberates them from a Cartesian model of space whereby gravity often gets reconfigured as the artists explore location, objects in space and being in space.
