In its seventh year, Rising: the Victoria Harbour Young Artist Initiative is an exhibition of public artworks from young artists currently studying in Sculpture & Spatial Practice, School of Art, Victorian College of the Arts, The University of Melbourne. It offers these artists at the commencement of their careers an opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of developing and exhibiting major works for public spaces. Curated and co-ordinated by Laura Woodward with Sarah Jane Haywood.
The 2014 artworks include an interactive work using mirrored surfaces, a sculptural version of a shipping container, a rainbow lighting installation, a diving board emerging from the water and a performance work involving semaphore flags that will occur at lunchtime each day.
The 2014 ‘Rising’ artists are Carla Milentis & Madeleine Mills, Georgia Knight & Julia Dunne, Madison Kelly, Amy Robinson and Riley Richardson.
Rising: the Victoria Harbour Young Artist Initiative 2014 is jointly presented by Sculpture & Spatial Practice, School of Art, Victorian College of the Arts, The University of Melbourne, and Lend Lease, with support from Parks Victoria.
