Robert William Reid | Bulli Pass

The inspiration for Reid’s exhibition ‘Bulli Pass’ evolved from his daily commute to Sydney from his home in the Illawarra. A journey he has made since 1988:

“My first memory of making art was in a Scottish primary school art class aged four and a half years. The teacher gave me oil pastels and a big piece of paper. I told him it was a chicken. All tangled feathers and rich colours, he said he loved it, I was hooked. On reflection I think I have spent the last fifty years trying to recreate that moment”, says Reid.

His recent paintings use colour in an exuberant and joyful way, weaving threads of pure colour in a dappled tangle. The experience of a place, the sounds and the smell of colours, evokes a physiological landscape.

Robert William Reid is an artist trying hard not to illustrate but to evoke.
