Sculpture at Scenic World 2019 artists announced

Twenty-nine artists have been selected to exhibit at Sculpture at Scenic World 2019, rising above a competitive field to showcase their talents in Australia’s most iconic outdoor rainforest exhibition situated in the Blue Mountains.

Shortlisted from more than 100 submissions by an independent judging panel – UNSW’s Deputy Dean for Art & Design, Professor Marie Sierra; independent curator, Axel Arnott; and Blue Mountains-based artist Heidi Axelsen – a total of 26 artworks will be showcased during Sculpture at Scenic World from 12 April 12 to 12 May 2019.

All will be in the running for the coveted $20,000 Scenic World Major Award, in addition to the $5,000 Artist Peer Award, the $2,000 Scenic World Staff’s Choice Award, and the $1,000 Carrington Hotel People’s Choice Prize. Artworks will also be selected for the $1,000 Blue Mountains Cultural Centre Exhibition Opportunity and the $3,000 Environmental Prize.

Sculpture at Scenic World Exhibition Curator Justin Morrissey commended all shortlisted artists for presenting artistic visions that push the boundaries of their creative practice: ‘Sculpture at Scenic World’s position on a site of rich natural beauty and cultural significance continues to be a major drawcard for artists who are willing to test their limits among the pristine rainforest setting.’

The exhibition will feature an extensive public program in 2019, with details to be released in the coming months.
