The Director’s Choice 2015: Celebrating 35 Years

One of Australia’s most high profile windows to the art world, Gould Galleries, in Toorak Road, South Yarra, turns 35 this year, and will celebrate with an exhibition of notable works from Australia’s most famous 20th century artists.

Gould Galleries ‘Director’s Choice 2015’ features iconic works from Sidney Nolan’s ‘Ned Kelly’ series, Charles Blackman’s ‘Schoolgirls’, and John Perceval’s ‘Williamstown’, as well as works from a select group of Australia’s most dynamic contemporary artists. Gallery founder Rob Gould says the 35th anniversary is a fitting occasion to exhibit some significant paintings that have not been seen on the market for over a decade.

Gallery director, Rob Gould, says many of the 38 significant works in the 35th Anniversary exhibition have not been seen on the market for over a decade along with a selection of exciting contemporary paintings and sculpture.
“Putting together the 35th Anniversary Exhibition I approached a number of clients and have been privileged to be entrusted with some truly museum quality works – some of the finest examples of the best works of our greatest artists.”

“Four of the works originally featured as front covers on our previous catalogues which we’ve been producing since the 1980’s,” Mr Gould said.

Rob Gould first opened the gallery, at 270 Toorak Road, in 1980, in partnership with his mother, who had previously managed a gallery in nearby High Street, Armadale. For the past 35 years the Gould Galleries window on Toorak Road has been a beacon to generations of art lovers and collectors.
