This year’s forty finalists of The Lester Prize for portraiture include established and emerging Australian artists – in line with the award’s ethos of ‘art accessible for all’.
The 2025 lineup includes seventeen returning finalists, thirteen Victorian finalists and twelve Western Australian finalists. Amongst the entries, Ross Potter’s self-portrait, Cost of Living, is a highlight. Delicately drawn on an eggshell using watercolour and oil pencil, the work expresses “the idea that during the current cost of living crisis, a once humble staple could now be an extravagant canvas to create upon.”
