Telling the story of artistic exchanges between the Indonesian societies of Hindu Bali and Muslim Lombok, this exhibition includes over one hundred works created by the Sasak people as an expression of community values, spiritual beliefs, and reverence for ancestors.
Textiles, including previously unseen, are at the exhibition’s heart – embroidered, painted, tie-dyed, and woven – appearing alongside objects that include eighteenth-century Balinese temple doors, gold ancestral shrine plaques, and large-scale paintings, showcasing the architecture, artistic traditions, and ceremonial life of both islands.
