Wendy Loefler: Lament, an Antarctic encounter

Following an expedition to Antarctica, Loefler shifted her attention from arid deserts to sub-zero glaciers with a unique sensitivity to the environment she portrays in charcoal and pastel. Not only was Loefler struck by the enchanting beauty of the Antarctic but also by the knowledge of the changes happening caused by global warming.

These large scale and breathtakingly beautiful drawings serve as documentation and a visual interpretation of an area that plays a role of such importance in our global equilibrium, yet is a place that most people will never have the pleasure of experiencing first hand.
