William Mackinnon: Twin Palms

William Mackinnon and his partner embarked on an architectural pilgrimage to the USA, visiting ‘Fallingwater’ (designed by Frank Lloyd Wright) and Palm Springs. Inspired, he returned to his studio in regional Spain to create the paintings that comprise ‘Twin Palms’.

Mackinnon’s subjects inhabit psychological landscapes – sunlit exteriors, lyrical coastlines with glassy waves and studio spaces juxtaposed with darker depictions of the urban nocturne and endless highways. His practice also draws on life’s delicate realities as works are laden with emotional, social and political symbolism.
