Wollongong has one of New South Wales’ worst kept secrets. It has deep-seated artistic leanings. Predilections to the creative. Yet speak to many Sydney-siders and their expectations of the city don’t stem far from its ample coastline. Wonderwalls 2013 is a three day art festival showing up in The Gong to expose its creative side. The secret’s out Wollongong.
In its second year, the street art and graffiti festival is aimed at capturing and showcasing the artistic underbelly of the city. Rich in undiscovered subculture and with commitment to organisations such as the Wollongong Art Gallery and annual arts festival Viva la Gong, Wonderwalls shows that regional centres are invested street art and graffiti too. Particularly now, and particularly Wollongong, at just a one-hour drive from Sydney’s CBD.
The festival includes an art exhibition, artists talks and multiple large-scale murals being painted in the Wollongong CBD.
