2014 Artists for Kids’ Culture Fundraiser Auction

Melbourne-based Artists for Kids’ Culture is an organisation run via the generosity and compassion of many individuals and businesses.

Back in 1994 David Larwill, Jo Darvall and Bernie Jones recognised that children living in financially disadvantaged circumstances were also disadvantaged creatively. To raise funds to provide art supplies for children living on the Horace Petty Housing Commission Estate. The original raffle held at the St Kilda Bowling Club raised $4,000. Since then an annual fundraiser has supported thousands of children to participate in and experience the arts.

This ethos is still present today as they continue to provide arts and cultural opportunities to kids experiencing disadvantage in their lives due to factors including poverty, health or social issues or cultural dislocation. These children are vulnerable to missing out on extra curricular learning opportunities such as dance, music and art lessons, they have limited access to live performance and arts venue, and have a reduced capacity to participate in a variety of arts and cultural experiences.

On Thursday 30 October Artists for Kid’s Culture will present their 21st fundraising auction at Brightspace gallery in St Kilda. Donations each year by more than 65 painters, sulptors and photographers enable this worthwhile charity to continue.

A special preview of the works will take place on Sunday 26 October with Artists for Kid’s Culture presenting an afternoon Tea Party with keynote speaker Bernie Geary (Principal Commissioner – Commission for young people). MC’d by Rebecca Barnard with entertainment by Rosie Westbrook (Classical Guitar).
