The prestigious City of Perth Black Swan Portraiture Prize is Australia’s third richest non-digital portrait prize. The annual national prize has quickly become an anticipated event in Western Australia’s cultural calendar, creating a showcase of both emerging and established artists and can be considered a strong contender to the Archibald Prize.
The 2014 Black Swan Portraiture Prize will take place in October 2014 in the heart of Perth, with artworks by Australia’s finest portrait artists on display.
This year the exhibition also features the Black Swan Prize for Heritage, where twenty-nine artworks depicting aspects of the Heritage of Perth.
The exhibition celebrates Australian’s excelling in their field and strives to foster artistic talent. The forty finalists have been selected from a record field of 350 entries from across Australia, with just over half of the entries are from outside Western Australia.
The judges say this year’s portraits are ‘simply striking’, the talent and stories the artworks depict are incredible.
This year finalists will be vying for the $50,000 Lester Group Prize and the $7,500 People’s Choice Award.
