Copyright Agency | Viscopy has selected 24 finalists from 546 entries for this year’s $10,000 John Fries Award for emerging artists. The finalists come from all over Australia and New Zealand, with three Aboriginal artists represented. Works include painting, sculpture, installation, video and a live performance work.
The 5th John Fries Award will be announced at the official exhibition opening on Tuesday 12 August at the award’s venue partner Galleries UNSW, COFA in Paddington, Sydney.
“The John Fries always delivers something unexpected,” says guest curator and judge, Sebastian Goldspink. “The artists display extraordinary imagination and take risks and I know everyone will be keenly watching and waiting for this year’s exhibition at Galleries NSW, COFA. It’s a fantastic celebration of the strength and diversity of Australasian emerging art!”
