Flashes of colour, form, movement and sound awaken the streets of Chippendale to illuminate the kaleidoscope of creative talents for a spectacular evening of fun and frivolity on Saturday 17 September, 5-10pm.
Now in its 5th year, BEAMS Arts Festival offers an unforgettable visionary experience unlike any other, in which clusters of creatives engage the opus of their imaginations with the public – showcasing an array of visual and performance artists, animators, artisans, architects, bespoke crafters, designers, production companies, creative contemplators and creative agencies. An audience of 22,000+ local, national and international visitors will visit Balfour Street and 7 surrounding laneways for a bright night of communal ‘enlightenment’, with festival-goers enjoy the opportunity to directly interact with hands-on art making and plein air performances. Four workshops are on offer
Implicit in the festival’s theme, the Spirit of Chippendale is one that glimmers in the darkness. From industrial beginnings, Chippendale has emerged luminous and ready to take on a new age where the spirit of both people and place burn brightly together.
Nine Chippendale alleyways will be transformed into a cosmos of creative innovation. Over 40 of Sydney’s best street artists will gravitate to O’Connor Street, just around the corner from Kensington Street, and transform a 100m graffiti wall with their urban flare, curated by Scott Marsh. The wall will be plastered by over 50 back to back pieces from artists such as Mulga, MAID, Ox King, Ayla the Caveman, Emmanuel Moore and YIPES – to name a few.
