Forty-five local and international artists have been recognised for their outstanding artistic talent with the Gold Coast City Gallery announcing the finalists for the 29th Gold Coast International Ceramic Art Award.
From Switzerland to Argentina, this year’s Ceramic Art Award attracted a diverse range of almost 200 entries, with the finalists to be exhibited at Gold Coast City Gallery from 6 September to 26 October.
While the award continues to attract contemporary artists from around the world, Gallery Manager John Walsh was also pleased to see many local artists recognised: “Artists from every Australian state have been selected this year which is great to see. In particular, Gold Coast local Leisa Russell has again been selected as a finalist – Leisa’s ceramic artwork was selected as winner of this award in 2012.”
The winner will be announced at the exhibition opening on Saturday 6 September winning $10 000 for their efforts. “Their artwork will become an important addition to the Gallery’s expanding collection of high-end international ceramics.” Mr Walsh said.
2014 selected finalists are: Ros Auld, Julie Bartholomew, Leonardo Bartolini, Xiaodong Bian, Mollie Bosworth, Veronica Cay, Maria Chatzinikolaki, Chi-Sheng Chen, Madeleine Child, Zara Collins, Greg Daly, Johanna De Maine, John Dermer, Kate Dorrough, Jan Downes, Alfredo Eandrade, Simcha Even-Chen, Simone Fraser, Helen Fuller, Matthew Gove, Jenna, Green, Niharika Hukku, Susan Jacobsen, Irianna Kanellopoulou, Yi-Wen Ken, Leana Kim, Lo-Ann Lin, Sharon Muir, Jodie Noble, Jenny Orchard, Joseph Ottaway, Isaac Patmore, Yamei Peng, Simon Reece, Florence Rometsch, Leisa Russell, Sarah Schembri, Amanda Shelsher, Vipoo Srivilasa, John Stewart, Gabrielle Sturman, Ulrica Trulsson ,Sally Walk ,Caroline Walker-Grime, and Kirk Winter.
The Gold Coast Ceramic Art Award is a biennial award was established in 1982 to encourage the creation and appreciation of art in clay. It became an international exhibition in 1995.
