Throughout 2012, six artists – Tony Lloyd, Steve Lopes, Anna Madeleine, Natalie O’Conner, Peter Sharp and Ruth Waller – participated in a residency program, ‘Insight Radical’, which saw the artists spend time with a group of scientists all working on and developing research around free radicals.
Taking place in the chemistry laboratories of the Free Radical Centre at Melbourne University, the artists engaged with the science of free radical chemistry through demonstrations of experiments and discussions about the impact of this research.
The resulting exhibition, which includes painting, sound, animation, and 3D printing, explores the unexpected similarities between science and art and how the two can affect and play off each other.
