Marking the first international survey of Vietnamese artist Trần Lương, thirty years of the artist’s practice is traced.
From his early 1980s painting career to a shift towards performance and conceptual art following the opening of Vietnam’s economy to global trade, and then his subsequent efforts to work collaboratively with communities, the exhibition spans installation, painting, performance, community engagement, and institution making. On offer are insights into a practice shaped by Vietnam’s political and social transitions and Lương’s roles as activist, archivist, curator, facilitator, and mentor.
