‘Super naturale’ is a new series of photographic portraits by Jacqui Stockdale. Each image is individually hand-tinted and displayed in an elaborate hand-crafted frame.
Stockdale has created hybrid characters that are at once comical, grotesque and beautiful. They draw on a variety of different cultural depictions of devils, bunyips, superheroes and modern goddesses. The images reflect Stockdale’s ongoing fascination with the role of costumes, masks and ritual objects as markers of our history and cultural identity.
