Ian Friend: Musæum – Fragments of Former Worlds (Works from 1983–2016)

British-born, now Australia-based, artist Ian Friend looks back in this exhibition, which is born of a similar ode to the wisdom of the past (our literal and imagined geologies) he appreciated while working in the mid-1970s and onwards at the British Museum, the Tate and frequenting the Victoria and Albert, Natural History and the Sir John Soane’s Museums. The works on paper in this show “present a private museum, some works retained or never exhibited over the years, as fragments of my former worlds” that have been “hard won, in the extended time frame that it takes to bring them to some form of resolution” writes the artist.
