Writhing, mouth agape and eyes glazed, the key subject in Bernini’s Ecstasy of Saint Teresa (1652) awaits penetration from Eros’ burning arrow. Four centuries later, this rapture is explored in ‘Ecstasy: Baroque and Beyond’, bringing together traditional Baroque imagery of exaltation with recent re-imagined representations – recorded sensual dance moves, a bronze nude suggestively arched on a mattress and Aussie rules players gasping in sporting glory. Artists include Pietro Aquila, Salvador Dali, William Hogarth, Bill Henson, Petrina Hicks, Hiromi Tango, to name a few.
