‘Looking In: A Survey of David Hawkes – 1989 to Now’ is an intimate look into Hawkes’ life and eminent career over the past three decades. The exhibition features a series of works selected from integral parts of his career since living and working from his Wedderburn home and studio, taking a deep look into the beauty and complexities of the surrounding environment. New works that provide a glimpse into the artist’s current practice are also on show, reflecting how the artist has responded to, and continues to shape the visual dialogue of the Australian landscape. The development of these new works sees Hawkes play with Morse code, repetition, lines of order and disorder, within and beyond boundaries.
