Borrowed Landscapes

This exhibition interrogates the grand narratives of colonial history through images of the Australian landscape that question, unsettle and uncover Culture, connection and knowledge that has been lost.

Early landscape photography is inextricably linked to colonialism – used as a way of capturing the landscape, of claiming it in territorial acts, of “discovering” it, and helped craft narratives that deny the presence of First Nations people. Here, artists focus on what has been overlooked, ignored or lost through history and the ways in which we have irrevocably altered the landscape.
