Alex Seton: The Pygmalion

Alex Seton is known for his sculptural works in marble, which investigate the relationship between form and substance. The Australian artist is set to embark on his first solo exhibition in Singapore with a new collection of works for ‘The Pygmalion’.

Seton considers the concepts of transformation and autonomy with a series of hybrid sculptures using thoughtfully selected materials and found objects such as furniture. Using his skilled craftsmanship he combines carved marble grafts, that create a sense of the objects calcifying, with digitally printed plastic substitutes to replace missing or destroyed parts. Through this process Seton suggests the inevitability of change in our anthropocene age, and throws notions of authorship into question.
