Born in regional Victoria’s Mildura, Smith has travelled, studied and painted overseas for the last 25 years. Smith’s work derives from a classical tradition but translates into a contemporary context. Her influences are varied and range from the simple, ordered compositions of the early Renaissance to the broad textural boldness of colour field painters.
This exhibition highlights Smith’s artistic practice with works that depict a variety of still life objects. These every day objects are presented in a way that draws your attention to their shape and form. Warm tones and gentle strokes allow you to observe the chosen subjects in detail through the artist’s perspective.
