Art Month Sydney is delighted to announce it will again be presenting a citywide celebration of contemporary art in 2014. Running from 1 to 23 March, Art Month 2014 promises a world-class selection of international and Australian artists, alongside an inspired program of events designed to delight, provoke and captivate seasoned and first-time gallery visitors alike.
The Art Month 2014 program takes its inspiration from the theme ‘Intersections and Parallels’ and looks beyond traditional frameworks to showcase art in the context of the wider creative sector with a particular focus on the current popularity of cross-sector collaborations.
Artistic Director Scrap Wall says: ‘In almost every art-form around the globe right now, genres are spilling into one another with exciting and unexpected results. By creating new pathways for creative thinkers to connect art forms, this generation of art makers is changing the way that art is made.’
Wall is passionate about creating meaningful art experiences in Art Month 2014 which reflect this blending of boundaries between visual arts; art and design; art and fashion; art and film; art and commerce. He adds that as well as changing the way art is made, the previous framework for art viewing experiences is also shifting.
“Art is not being made in quite the same way today, so nor should the traditional models of visiting galleries remain static or unchanged. The gallery-going experience has to reflect the changing artmaking landscape,” said Wall.
Over 23 days in March, Art Month will hold a dynamic program of talks, beginners buy art tours, panel discussions, cycle tours, precinct evenings, collectors’ talks, workshops, artist dinners and art bars.
The full Art Month 2014 program will be unveiled in January 2014.
