Art on the Page

The University of Melbourne celebrates the livre d’artiste with ‘Art on the Page’ at Noel Shaw Gallery from 3 August, 2017 to 14 January, 2018. Artist books were popular among major painters and sculptors during the 20th century; they courted collaboration between visual artists and writers, and remain a source of inspiration today. ‘Art on the Page’ showcases book illustration work and original woodcuts, lithographs, etchings, tableaux and engravings by European and Australian masters. Artists include; Arthur Boyd, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, David Hockney and Joan Miró, with written works by Vladimir Mayakovsky, Oscar Wilde, Emily Brontë, Alec Derwent Hope, Gary Catalano and others. Curator Susan Millard hosts a floor talk: 9 August, 12-1pm.
