Canberra Glassworks has announced the successful applicants for the 2023 Artist in Residency program, which invites artists from all career levels to immerse themselves in the facility, focusing on creating new works or researching techniques using glass; and encouraging experimentation, skill building and production of quality artworks which advances the use and critical understanding of glass as a material.

Canberra Glassworks’ 2023 Artist in Residence program will support eighteen new residents: John Brekkie (USA), Robert Fielding (Western Arrernte and Yankunytjatjara Peoples) (SA), Erin Vink (NSW), Studio A, Ros Lemoh (ACT), Lisa Sammut (ACT), Brendan Van Hek (NSW), Emily Parsons-Lord (VIC), Nicholas Burridge (VIC), Ross Manning (QLD), Julie Bartholomew (NSW), Rose-Mary Faulkner (ACT/NSW), Jordon Benson (VIC), and Bronte Cormican-Jones (NSW).

A six-month residency to immerse himself in the Hotshop and exchange knowledge with the local glass community. Supported by Art Group.

Artist in Residence, supporting a regional artist to deliver exhibition quality works, Robert Fielding (Western Arrernte and Yankunytjatjara Peoples) (SA), who will work closely with Writer in Residence, Erin Vink (NSW).

In partnership with Studio A, Canberra Glassworks will support a specially tailored residency working with artists who face barriers. This residency aims to be ambitious and to deliver quality artwork with these artists.

Other residencies include sculptor Ros Lemoh (ACT), Lisa Sammut (ACT), Brendan Van Hek (NSW), and Emily Parsons-Lord (VIC). Glass and mixed media artists Nicholas Burridge (VIC), Ross Manning (QLD), Julie Bartholomew (NSW).

Canberra Glassworks Mentorship was awarded to early career artist Rose-Mary Faulkner (ACT/NSW), who will grow her skills in the neon area, working closely with Harriet Schwarzrock.

New Graduate Residencies offer the chance for emerging artists to spend time developing their work after graduating. In 2023 these include Jordon Benson (VIC), Melbourne Polytechnic and, Bronte Cormican-Jones (NSW), Sydney College of the Arts.

Further residencies to be announced shortly include Path to Glass, a program for year 11–12 students and the Toyama Glass Studio Exchange Resident.

While at the Glassworks, artists will have full access to all kilns, the glass blowing studio, mould-making area, and all other technical facilities.
