Clara Adolphs: The Man in Me

Adolphs’ work remains centered on capturing moments and ultimately the wider context of an interest in the human condition. The genesis of her latest body of work came from realising that the artists, musicians and writers (mainly from the 1950’s and 60’s) who inspire her are all males.

The show’s title, ‘The Man in Me’, is also the title of a Bob Dylan song and explores the dichotomy between the lives of men and the lives of women. Like the song, the paintings that make up this exhibition are based on her observations of men – something of an attempt to observe and understand them better. She explores the male ego and the relationships and interactions they share with one another.
