Melville’s Art Collection represents a significant cultural investment for the City and a record of its history and change through artistic interpretations. It includes over 300 artworks, with around one-third of these purchased from local artists through the City’s annual Art Awards.
Heathcote Gallery Curator Jana Braddock said selecting works for this particular exhibition had not been an easy task. Not all the artworks could be included, but were by no means of less importance to the collection. Approximately 40 artists are showcased with much of the Art Collection on permanent display throughout the City of Melville Civic Centre and other community buildings; these are rotated periodically.
