Coney Island: Bec Parsons

Coney Island: Bec Parsons
Perimeter Editions

Sydney-based photographer Bec Parsons’ work has featured in numerous fashion publications. Her creative eye and skill behind the lens translates to a distinct style of raw, unfussed images that focus solely on the subject. Shot in the early Spring of 2012 in New York City, a series of photographs, devoid of any text, narrate her debut book ‘Coney Island’. The protagonist, a young Julia Nobis, poses for the camera with the characteristic surrounds of the amusement park in the backdrop – shop fronts, boardwalks, ferris wheel and rollercoaster. The off-season lull in activity allows for an uninterrupted, intimate connection between photographer/artist and model/subject with the exception of blossoming cherry trees, indicative of fleeting beauty and seasonal change.
