‘Heart Land’ is something of a homecoming for Craig Waddell, returning to his rural roots after 10 years of extensive travel. “This exhibition is made up of subject matter close to my heart; the subjects have come from my rural umbilical cord, so I felt ‘Heart Land’ was a fitting title,” he says.
Human characteristics and personality traits are acknowledged in these rural subjects; roosters and tractors. Cheeky, assertive, handsome or even macho – Waddell identifies and draws upon the specific idiosyncrasies and character traits of an object, and portrays them in his signature semi-abstract, textural style.
