Danie Mellor: Proximity and Perception

‘Proximity and Perception’ features drawings and photographic works from the last decade of Danie Mellor’s output, alongside a major new work commissioned for the Cairns Art Gallery collection that depicts an idyllic scene of Bama (rainforest people), conveying what the artist refers to as ‘Arcadian melancholy’. Tracing Mellor’s ongoing engagement with his matrilineal Country of the Atherton Tablelands in the highland region in Far North Queensland, the solo exhibition brings together multiple approaches making sense of and recording the changing landscape of his ancestors.
