Northern Centre for Contemporary Art presents Darwin-based ceramicist Dawn Beasley’s third instalment of her largest installation to date.
Botanically Porcelain is a floor-based field of more than 1,000 hand-built porcelain sculptures that speaks to the simultaneous and conflicting qualities of nature – fragility and endurance. The installation offers a similar feel to a wildflower meadow scene; however, upon closer view, one can admire each object’s distinction owed to Beasley’s careful crafting with gold lustre. Each detail adds to the work’s narrative of growth and survival.
