Debra Dawes: Measure (ii)

‘Measure (ii)’ is a new iteration of a recent survey exhibition profiling the prolific output of Australian artist Debra Dawes. A cross-section of work from the artist’s career is presented alongside several new experiments with form and materials that extend the arc of her painting. Carefully calculated, colour-coded paintings, some including text, exemplify how the act of measuring is central to Dawes’ geometrically-focused practice. New works incorporate this highly structured aesthetic with more gestural mark-making, exploring the visual economy of abstraction.
