Curator Jo Lane, with Montsalvat Arts Manager Jeannette Davison, brings a group of international and Melbourne-based artists together for ‘drawing strength’, an exhibition of works offering up new ways to experience and think about drawing. Once seen as a preparatory phase for other artworks, and at times discarded in favour of finished work, drawing is now recognised as one of the most explosive forms of contemporary art making.
Participating artist include: Elisa Alaluusua, James Bonnici, James Carey, Brian Cheung, Paul Compton, Jole Di Florio, Robbie Harmsworth, Emma Louise Hollaway, Despa Hondros, Alex Hotchin, Deborah Klein, Shane Jones, Jo Lane, Joshua McCrimmon, Fiona McKinnon, Catherine Pilgrim, Silvia De Giorgi, Irene Wellm, Caroline Holt Wilson, Sepideh Khalili, Fran Norton, Juan Carlos Sanchez Sabogal, and Ellis Scheer.
‘drawing strength’ is inspired by the experiences and knowledge Lane acquired during a year of open discovery, while undertaking a Masters of Drawing degree in London. She also attended industry lectures, many drawing exhibitions in Europe and England and the DRAWING NOW Art Fair in Paris.
