This Friday sees the opening of The General Store‘s first exhibition for 2013, and they’re kicking of their year with a high profile exhibition by internationally acclaimed Irish photographer Eamonn McLoughin.
Visitor is a series of large-scale photographic prints that depict observers, being observed. McLoughin photographs the familiar moment of collaborative perception that occurs when we find ourselves unwittingly participating in collective observation of famous landmarks. With influences drawn from Eastern philosophies, and the quantum physics observer principle, these works are a meditation on consciousness as it is experienced through acts of looking. As a visitor to the exhibition ourselves, another dimension is added to the act of observation, which forces us to consider our own personal experience of viewing the works and our role as observer in the gallery space and as part of a group.
With a background in commercial fashion and architectural photography and with work held in private collections across Germany, the UK, and Australia, Visitor – McLoughin’s first solo exhibition in Australia, is not to be missed.
