Rebecca Hastings: Feed

Continuing her exploration of the “unheimlich,” or the uncanny, Rebecca Hastings’ new series of classically rendered images evoke a deep sense of futuristic, dreamlike unease. Informed by the outputs of AI-generated images but created in direct opposition to them, these paintings explore the interplay between the digital, psychological, and physical realms, delving into how AI infiltrates and guides our thoughts and actions. Depicting figures with disembodied, duplicated hands – AI-generated, synthetic, and strange, Hastings highlights the uniquely human capacity of our hands to control, care for, manipulate and consume.
