Stephen Bowers and Mark Thompson

Stephen Bowers’ birds perch before brightly coloured backgrounds of fragments derived from design history showcasing elements of nature. These images speak to the artist’s concern for the natural world, specifically human impact on the environment and how we disrupt the natural patterns and appropriate nature for our own use.

Mark Thompson’s rich polychromatic glazes with gold lustre accents play on historical elements, such as the bust and a tradition of animal ceramics, including those created for the Order of the Pug, using tongue-in-cheek wit and unbridled experimentation.
