Awarded the Golden Lion for Best National Participation at La Biennale di Venezia 2024, kith and kin traces artist Archie Moore’s Kamilaroi and Bigambul relations over 65,000+ years.
A celestial map of names, Moore’s extensive drawing places common ancestors of all humans alongside animals, plants, landforms and waterways, emphasising kinship responsibilities. Use of fragile chalk on blackboard addresses the need to disseminate First Nations histories and languages more widely and a reflective pool at the installation’s centre is a memorial for First Nations individuals who have died in police custody.
