Adelaide-based multidisciplinary painter and sculptural artist Nicholas Hanisch is interested in the blurring of time, his paintings and sculptures playfully recreating creation narratives while blurring contemporary and historical references.
With absurdity, happenstance, humour, and failure being central to his studio practice, International Hotel represents the never-ending forks of chance determining universal intermingling; bad poetry and cheesy sentimental recreations of the artist’s favourite types of paintings, grand gestures of wax modelling and molten bronze – the exhibition is filled with tokens of chaos, supermassive compressions of infinite moments into squiggly paper weights.
